It was standing room only at Chamberlain’s Indianapolis grand opening, as community leaders came together with nursing students, faculty and staff. At the Oct. 11 event, the Indianapolis campus was formally welcomed to the city after first opening its doors to students in Feb. 2012.
Here are some highlight’s from the night’s addresses:
Margaret Harvey, PhD, MSN, MAT, RN, president of the Indianapolis campus at Chamberlain College of Nursing
“When a person decides to become a nurse they make the most important decision of their lives. They choose to dedicate themselves to the care of others. Nursing is a career for a lifetime. You are always a nurse.
Chamberlain nursing graduates can become leaders that others turn to for knowledge, guidance and expertise. With a long, rich history of nursing excellence, our students strive to provide patients with the care, comfort and compassion that matters most during their times of need. You see the spirit and knowledge of our nurses and the strength of their commitment down hallways and in patient rooms in hospitals throughout our country.”
Amy Little, RN, BSN, coordinator of the clinical education department of Wishard Health Services
“We’re extremely pleased to have Chamberlain College of Nursing join us in our mission and be a part of our innovative learning environment. Chamberlain nursing students will have a unique opportunity to learn collaboratively with the many other students and disciplines that are trained at Wishard, including physicians, pharmacists and rehab therapists. Welcome to Wishard, and welcome to the healthcare community in Indianapolis.”
Dorinda Workman, a member of the first BSN nursing class at Chamberlain’s Indianapolis campus
“Chamberlain College of Nursing has embraced me with open arms and given me the opportunity to continue to pursue my dream. My professors encourage, inspire, and believe in my potential. They provide me with not only a foundation of knowledge, but they empower me to strive for excellence.
Pursing my nursing degree has not only been a lifelong dream, but has led to an opportunity to personally grow and attain the skills necessary to give meaningful care at the next level. It also inspired me to be a good role model for my children; my hope is that they will always be encouraged to challenge themselves and pursue their dreams.”
Susan Groenwald, PhD(c), MSN, president of Chamberlain College of Nursing
“Chamberlain has conferred over 14,000 nursing degrees. We are proud of our graduates, who are committed to continually improving the quality of the patient care they provide as well as the healthcare of the communities they serve. They are transforming healthcare worldwide and are truly extraordinary!”
Gregory N. Larkin, state health commissioner for the Indiana State Department of Health
“We find your school exciting, and terribly needed. We are encouraged that the students are engaged and excited to pursue their career in nursing. We encourage and beg you to stay here in Indiana.”
