From Chamberlain student Danica: “Betty Boop will be traveling with us to Brazil :) This is her on packing day. Look for more pictures to come!”

Hello from Salvador, Brazil! My team and I arrived in Salvador early Saturday morning after an uneventful flight for our latest International Nursing Service Project trip. This is the first time students from the Miramar campus joined the international team. We visited an orphanage for children whose mothers are in prison.

Monday and Tuesday were spent at the OSID Irma Dulce Hospital in Salvador. The students spent the days with wonderful nurses on the pediatric ICU and women’s ward. They changed dressings, performed vital signs, gave baths and learned about the Brazilian hospital. Many of the patients I saw last year were still on the unit. It was heartbreaking to see them, but it looks like they are getting better.

We were privileged to observe a music therapy session complete with singing and a guitar. Afterwards, the students gave a talk about breast cancer and dental hygiene. One student remarked that she has never done so much nursing until she came to Brazil.

Everyone is staying healthy, meeting wonderful Brazilian people, and enjoying the BRAZILIAN COFFEE. Tomorrow is Brazilian Labor Day, so we will be traveling to tour the country as the people enjoy this national holiday.
