Innovative Nurse Brings Care to Caregivers

Heather Matthews, MSN, RN, created the Pet the Pooch program at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania to reduce stress among nurses. She was inspired by programs that bring therapy animals to patients to help lift their spirits. The Pet the Pooch program brings shelter cats and dogs from the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to the hospital to interact with the nurses, doctors and staff. Personal Loss Inspires Nursing Career
